Trent Health Information Service: Not a web site but a free phone health information line. Phone with questions about any topic related to health, from specific diseases to making complaints, and they will tell you where to get specialist information and send you booklets etc. Very friendly. 0800 665544 (information experts not medical experts.) There is life outside the web!
Foreign & Commonwealth office: Is it safe to go? Who is shooting who? What bugs are common? Is there a consulate? check web site or phone 0845 850 2829.
MASTA: A useful site if you are going off travelling. Get latest info about diseases in different countries, what vaccines to take, where to go for help and information, etc.
NaTHNaC: National Travel Health Network & Centre. Center set up to promote health and information for British travellers. Lots of up to date info, links and advice.
med4u A really useful site if you are abroad and have a medical problem. On line questionnaires or e-mail allow you to contact to a doctor for an e-mail response within 24 hours. May be a small charge per consultation in the future, but free at time of writing. (Probably better than trying to translate to the local medicine man, but don't forget that what is an unusual complaint for you might be an everyday occurrence, with an effective local remedy for the area you find yourself in.)
Virtual Doctor: On line surgery. E-mail consultations. Small membership fee but discount on travel packs for meds more than recoups the cost.

WEMSI - Wilderness emergency medical services institute : Great information for remote area first aid. Also covers things like S&R, Rescue dogs, and has a e-mail news bulletin to join.

Medicine Net : Useful US site with A-Z indexes of diseases and conditions, of procedures and tests, of medications, and medical dictionary. Latest health news, treatments and fact file.
NEVDGP : Australian info. site with good health information pages, and other health links.
Web MD : A medical reference centre for doctors and patients. Latest research information, disease centres, find a physician (in America), pages for doctors, nurses, patients, insurers.
Wrongdiagnosis: Strange name but a hyperchondriacs dream. Symptoms, diseases, videos. Links to doctors. Lots of ads to ignore but loads of good info if you search.
OMNI - Organising Medical Networked Information : UK site which get medics to sift and filter medical papers and sites on the web, so no 'quacks' here. In depth technical papers.
EMTB : Interactive sites, on screen anatomy tests, chest sounds, links to first aid instructors in US, free e-zine for instructors.
First aid net : Part of American JB publishing. On line tests and diagrams to support text books, like the 'First Aid and CPR textbook' Good revision aids for medical technicians and advanced first aiders.
